2008 Seattle Traffic Circle Garden Contest

Seattle Department of Transportation is pleased to announce the 2008 Traffic Circle Garden Contest! This contest is designed to acknowledge outstanding traffic circles and their diligent stewards. Join in this just-for-fun competition by completing and mailing a contest form to SDOT Urban Forestry by July 15.

Circles may be nominated to compete in the following categories:

  • Multi-Season Spectacular
  • Car Stoppin' Gorgeous
  • Just for Fun
  • From Ruin to Rescue
  • Community Collaboration (a group of at least 3 circles within a neighborhood)

Qualifying Traffic Circle Gardens must meet the following criteria:

  • Be well-maintained with under-story plants at or below 24” in height.
    • Weed free
    • Tidy
  • Demonstrate use of good gardening practices including:
    • Pest resistant plants
    • Drought tolerant plants (spring bulbs are acceptable)
    • Proper use of mulch (organic, inorganic, or living)
  • Does not contain invasive plants or noxious weed species
  • Mature trees are limbed up 8 feet in height– (young trees are exempt).
  • Does not contain any rocks, fences, metal or wooden posts, or sculptures

Judging will take place in August.
