University Bridge Painting Project

December 31, 2008

University Bridge Painting Project Started: Northbound Lane Closure Coming

Painting preparation work has started on the University Bridge. It will be necessary for the contractor to close the east side, northbound lane for several days during the week of January 5-9 or 11-15, depending on weather conditions. The lane closure will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Project Description

The purpose of this project is to extend the life of the University Bridge. The project includes washing, removing rust and damaged paint, applying primer paint where necessary and repainting all of the structural steel on the University Bridge. The bridge railings and light and power poles will also be repainted.

The project covers the entire bascule: all of the steel on the south end and the steel-only portions of the north end. It will also include painting of the stairway handrails. This project is funded by the City’s General Maintenance Budget (Cumulative Reserve Fund).
