SEATTLE — Seattle Public Utilities’ Red Wagon Paint Out Program is asking citizens to participate in a graffiti paint out on May 31 at Cal Anderson Park.

The Red Wagon Paint Out Program provides free materials and training to volunteers who want to remove unsightly graffiti on private property in their neighborhood. Program participants are provided a red wagon containing latex paint, paint rollers, roller screen and bucket, gloves, cleanup rags, and safety vest.

Event participants will become acquainted with the Red Wagon Paint Out Program. They will take part in an actual graffiti paint out and learn how to remove graffiti effectively. They will also learn how they can get their own red wagon of free graffiti removal tools.

The kickoff location for the Red Wagon Paint Out will be at the Cal Anderson Park Shelter House — 1635 11th Avenue in Capitol Hill. The event will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. More information can be received by calling (206) 386-9746.

One of the prime goals of the event will be educating the public on removing or painting over graffiti immediately. This is the best way to prevent more graffiti and stops property from becoming known as a good site among vandals.

Red Wagon Paint Out Event partners include: Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Police Department, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Paint Out, Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, and the Broadway Business Improvement Area.

In addition to providing more than 1.4 million customers in the Seattle metropolitan area with a reliable water supply, SPU provides essential sewer, drainage, solid waste and engineering services that safeguard public health, maintain the City’s infrastructure and protect, conserve and enhance the region's environmental resources.
