NEAR NORTH BEND, Wash. — Bring the whole family for this free day of hands-on water discovery while exploring neighborhood connections between watersheds, salmon, electricity, drinking water, and you.

On Saturday August 9, from noon to 6:00 p.m., Seattle Public Utilities and the Cedar River Watershed Education Center invite you to join us for a free, family-friendly event centered around celebrating water. This splashy fun day will be filled with activities and fun for everyone.

Kids of all ages will be captivated by the salmon storytelling tent, presentations, crafts, water magic, games, prizes and much more. Adults will enjoy free water-saving devices, natural lawn care tips.

We will also be offering free 45-minute van tours into the protected watershed for spectacular waterfall views. Both children and parents will enjoy this rare opportunity to see your drinking water in its mountain home.

If you’ve never been up to the Cedar River Watershed, now’s your chance. The watershed’s education center is a gathering place that connects visitors to the magic of water. Rain drums and illuminated root wads welcome you as you approach; native plantings, recycled building materials, and green sod roofs illustrate Seattle Public Utilities’ commitment to “building green.”

At the Water Is Magic Exhibits, visitors guide their personal “water drop” through the water cycle, take a trip into the watershed’s past, and discover the many critters that call Cedar River Watershed home. Hands-on activities reveal the Cedar River’s path from the forest to Seattle’s faucets.

The program is free. Visitors are invited to bring the whole neighborhood. For information, contact the Cedar River Watershed Education Center at (206) 733-9421 or by email: CRWPrograms@seattle.gov.
