SEATTLE—Seattle garbage, yard waste and recycling collections will be on normal schedule for Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11. Seattle Public Utilities customers should place their containers out by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection.
To help prevent street flooding, the city is asking Seattle residents to remove leaves from storm drains in their neighborhoods with a rake or broom (if it can be done safely), collect fallen leaves in their yards, and compost or properly dispose of them in yard waste containers.
Residents are invited to sign up to become Adopt-A-Drain volunteers to monitor and keep drains in their community free of debris. Seattle Public Utilities will support volunteers with bags, gloves, rakes and free disposal, but quantities are limited. To join or for more information call (206) 684-7647 or visit the Adopt-A-Drain website.
If there is a drain blockage below the street surface that is not remedied by removing the leaves, call Seattle Public Utilities’ Drainage and Wastewater Maintenance, at (206) 386-1800.
On Veterans Day, the City of Seattle’s North & South Recycling and Disposal Stations will be open during their regular business hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The North Recycling and Disposal Station is located at 1350 North 34th Street in the Fremont/Wallingford area. The South Recycling and Disposal Station is located at 8105 5th Avenue South in the South Park area.
Customers can report a missed garbage, yard waste or recycling collection after 6:00 p.m. on the day it was missed by calling (206) 684-3000 or by visiting the Online Missed Collection form on SPU’s Web site.
In addition to providing solid waste services in Seattle, SPU provides more than 1.3 million customers in the metropolitan area with a reliable water supply and provides essential sewer, drainage and engineering services that safeguard public health, maintain the City’s infrastructure and protect, conserve and enhance the region's environmental resources.
