Be a Creek Steward
Creek Steward Events
The following events occur rain or shine so dress for the weather and wear work clothes. Tools and gloves will be provided. You may want to bring a lunch depending on the timing of the event.
Please let the event contact know you are coming so they can have the right number of tools on hand. Youth under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants aged 15-18 must have a signed Liability Waiver form (see link to the right).
Longfellow, Delridge Natural Area
Date: Saturday, September 13, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Location: Delridge Natural Area
Event: Join us in removing ivy, blackberry and holly and then laying down a layer of mulch. All is in preparation for planting native plants and trees this fall. Volunteers should wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and leather boots and bring gloves (leather preferable). May also want to bring water and a snack. Victory Creek Restoration Project (Northgate area)
Date: Sunday, September 14, noon to 2:00pm
Location: Meet at Victory Creek Park - 105th & Roosevelt Way, off the QFC parking lot
Event: Come help us support this neighborhood creek and natural area. We are restoring Victory Creek by removing invasive plants, mulching, planting native species, cleaning up the litter in the park and caring for this wonderful native habitat! Dress for the weather and come ready to work!

Longfellow Creek
Date: Saturday, September 20, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Location: Brandon Street Natural Area
Event: Come down to the Brandon Street Natural Area for a day of removing invasive weeds and other tasks to help restore the habitat along Longfellow Creek. Work parties are rain or shine, so dress for the weather!

Taylor Creek
Date: Saturday, September 20, 9:00am to 1:00pm
Location: Lakeridge Park, Deadhorse Canyon
Event: Help care for new native plants by removing invasive weeds at Deadhorse Canyon. Coffee and sign-in begin at 8:30 AM. Work takes place from 9 until 1, every 3rd Saturday of the month! Gloves, tools and refreshments provided. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Group meets under the blue tent at the corner of Holyoke Ave and 68th Ave. S. off Rainier (near trailhead and sign for Deadhorse Canyon).

Observe Piper’s Creek with a purpose:
Be a Water Quality Team Leader!
Date: Beginning as soon as possible, Ongoing
Location: Carkeek Park, Piper’s Creek
Event: Be a part of the quest to link water quality to changing conditions in the urban environment! Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project (CWCAP) is looking for a motivated volunteer to act as a team leader for the volunteer monitoring program at Carkeek Park. This group specifically monitors the pH and turbidity of Piper’s Creek in Carkeek Park. Equipment and some training will be provided along with reasonable mileage reimbursement.

Be a Site Steward
Location: Creekside sites in Thornton, Longfellow and Piper’s Creek
Event: Creek Site Stewards adopt and care for habitat plantings along a creek, monitor their sites, and have the opportunity to learn more about creek related topics through Site Steward workshops.

Looking for a Change from the Urban Environment?
Date: Ongoing through spring, summer and fall
Location: Cedar River Watershed, 40 minutes east of Seattle.
Event: Join the Friends of the Cedar River Watershed for habitat restoration events in the throughout this. No experience is necessary, just an interest in getting your hands dirty and joining an energetic group of volunteers!
