Why report illegal dumping
Illegal dumping is a serious problem in Seattle. But, with your help, we can fix it! Seattle Public Utilities' Illegal Dumping Team responds to illegal dumping complaint and inspects, investigates, and enforces city ordinances relating to unlawful dumping, and accumulation of garbage, and other solid waste.
Materials are frequently dumped on streets, under bridges and in alleys. Littering is common in roadways, around schools, grocery stores and fast-food establishments. Allowing garbage to accumulate on vacant lots, back and front yards, sidewalks and planting strips often increases the problem.
Accumulation of rotten, decaying garbage attracts rats and other disease-carrying creatures. Dumping hazardous waste exposes humans and the environment to health problems and ecological decay. Illegal dumping is also associated with other forms of illegal activity. If tolerated, it sends a message to violators that it is okay to dump garbage in your neighborhood or community.
