Look Up Collection Day
Food and yard waste is collected every week. There is no collection service on the following holidays:

  • • Thanksgiving

  • • Christmas

  • • New Year’s Day

Moving, Open or Close Your Utility Account

Following each of these holidays, service will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. All other holidays have normal collection.

To find out collection information:

  • Look up your collection day (single-family homes only).

  • • Or call (206) 684-3000.

  • Note: Seattle Housing Authority customers do not receive garbage or food and yard waste service from Seattle Public Utilities. Please contact the Seattle Housing Authority at (206) 716-1310 for your collection information.
Report Missed Collection
You can report a missed garbage, recycling, or yard waste collection after 6 PM on the day it was missed. It will be picked up within two working days.

Change Service Level
Change food and yard waste cart size
(You may wish to have your utility bill handy.)

Use this online form if you:

  • • Are responsible for paying the bill and authorizing changes

  • • Live in a single-family residence

  • • Subscribe to 96 gallons or less of garbage service

  • • Do not receive utility rate-assistance

  • • Receive only curb or alley pick up
When to change cart size

  • • It may make sense to pay more for a larger cart if you often have more food and yard waste than will fit in your current cart.

  • If you only fill your cart halfway, you may want to order a smaller cart and pay less for service.

Replace Lost or Damaged Food and Yard Waste Cart

  • • Live in a single-family residence

  • • Subscribe to 96 gallons or less of garbage service

  • • Do not receive utility rate-assistance

When requesting a new cart

  • • Containers should be delivered within the next 10-15 business days.

  • • Please continue to use your current cart. If cart is damaged you may use your own can for yard waste only. Continue to use the damaged cart for food waste only if the lid is intact. Food waste must always be placed in containers with tight fitting lids.

  • • Put your food and yard waste out for collection at the normal pickup location.

  • • To avoid extra fees, do not set out more food and yard waste than your current subscription level.

  • • Please make your current cart visible and accessible for exchange.
